Rivers LG Election: APC Continues Winning Spree

Results from the just concluded Rivers Local Government Election indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued its winning spree.
According to Daily Trust, the APC won 22 out of the 23 chairmanship seats that were contested in Saturday’s council polls in Rivers State.

Addressing newsmen in the state capital (Port Harcourt), the Chairman of the State Independent National Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Mr. Augustine Ahiazu, revealed the results of the elections at about 9:15pm yesterday.
Mr. Ahiazu however said election was inconclusive in Ward 8, Ahoada East LGA.
He said, “The chairmanship seats were won by APC in all the 22 LGAs where elections held. As you know, there were no elections at Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA ecause they just had election last year. APC won 297 wards out of 302 wards. The remaining wards were won by ADC in Etche ward 3, PPA in Ahoada West ward 2, and Ahoada East ward 4 SDP won the seat there. In Ahoada East ward 8, election was inconclusive”. 
At the federal level, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2015 general elections, enjoyed the majority status in the red chamber of the National Assembly with 64 members while the APC had 41. Other parties, like the Labour Party, the Accord Party and the Social Democratic Party, shared the remaining five seats.
But following the declaration of of the March 28 result, the APC will now have 64 senators; the PDP, 45; and the Labour Party, one.
