Sokoto State Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Abdullahi
Abubakar Dange, has said the state government is training no fewer than
2,300 unemployed youths in the state as sanitation, traffic and security
marshals.
The commissioner made the disclosure while inspecting participants at
the orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in
Wamakko town, Wamakko Local Government Area of the state. He said the
programme was aimed to create more job opportunities for the teeming
unemployed youths in the state.
He added that about 100 youths were drawn each from the 23 local
government councils for the programme. The commissioner commended
Governor Aliyu Wamakko for giving the youths the opportunity to benefit
from the programme.
Dange, who expressed satisfaction with the arrangements done by the
training consultant to ensure the success of the programme, said:
“Excellent arrangements had been made to ensure the security, comfort
and welfare of the trainees during the six-week training programme. I
must, however, appeal to the participants to be committed and hard
working to achieve the set objectives.”
Also speaking, the training consultant, Alhaji Shehu Ya’u, said all
arrangements to ensure the success of the programme had been made.
Ya’u stated that military and para-military personnel were mobilised to adequately drill the trainees.
“The governor deserves a pat on the back for approving this laudable
programme which had taken 2,300 unemployed youths from the streets,” he
added.
A cross-section of the trainees, who spoke with journalists,
commended Governor Wamakko for approving the programme, saying: “We are
also comfortable and encouraged with the good arrangements made by the
ministry and the training consultant to ensure our welfare.”
