Former Governor of Oyo state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala |
A former governor of Oyo state, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has rebuffed claims that he’s crossing over to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Labour party candidate in the just concluded Oyo governorship election, made this disclosure after news surfaced online that he’s on the verge of defecting to the APC.
According to him, the reports are untrue and “a mere figment of imagination of some people”.
He noted that there is no need to cross-over to the ruling party, adding that he needs not defect to the APC in order to play a significant role especially at this point in time when “there is need for collective effort to build our state and Nigeria together.”
In a statement issued by his director of public affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, Alao-Akala said; “Today, we are one Nigeria irrespective of our ideological and political lineage, hence I want to reaffirm my commitment to my party – Labour Party, and also want people to disregard the rumour of my defection to the APC,” he stated
Otunba Alao-Akala became the Executive Governor of Oyo State in January 2006 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a position he occupied till May 2011.
He however lost his ambition to rule again when he was defeated by the APC candidate and governor-elect, Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Alao-Akala however congratulated Governor Ajimobi over his victory at the poll.
