The Benue House of Assembly has passed the state’s 2015 appropriation bill of N97.9 billion into law.
The bill was passed at plenary in Makurdi on Thursday.
During plenary, the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Mr Ianna Jato, told the House that the recurrent expenditure was N59. 07 billion while capital expenditure was N38. 8 billion.
He said also that the budget had an inbuilt deficit of N7, 76 billion.
The Speaker, Mr Terhile Ayua, who spoke after the passage directed the Ministry of Finance to make releases to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) complete their ongoing projects.
Ayua further directed MDAs involved in extra-budgetary expenditure to desist from such practices but to resort to supplementary appropriation when the need arises.
The Deputy Speaker, Dr Stephen Omeje, expressed regrets that the budget was passed five months into the fiscal year, stressing that it would make implementation difficult.
Omeje, therefore, advised the executive to always submit appropriation bills on time for speedy passage.
