More reactions have continued to trail the first appointments of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is no longer news that Muhammadu Buhari has now assumed office as the president of Nigeria, however, many Nigerians are looking forward to individuals who will make up his cabinet.
Widespread reactions and speculations trended on social media when Buhari made his first appointments of Mr. Femi Adesina as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity and Mallam Garba Shehu as Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity.
Mr. Femi Adesina is the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the Sun Newspaper and also the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors while Mallam Garba Shehu served as the Director, Media and Publicity of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council. Mallam Garba Shehu was also once the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
Of the two appointments, that of Femi Adesina, a Yoruba Christian, elicited the strongest reactions from Nigerians on social media for his approval of the infamous Fayose campaign ad that was published on the 19th of January, 2015, while serving as the CEO of The Sun.
Adesina has since defended the publication of the advert, saying that Money was not the primary consideration.
‘It was a decision I took consciously as Managing Director and Editor in Chief.’
Adesina claimed he edited the original advert to the level where it could still be published because ‘rejecting the advert would have meant trouble from the Orji Uzor Kalu, the newspaper’s proprietor and a founding member of the PDP’.
However, some Nigerians cannot still fathom why the President would appoint someone that once approved a hate advert to dim his chances of becoming the President.
