Bothered by “unprofessional conduct,” of Presidential Villa security men, the Chief Security Officer (CSO), to President Muhammadu Buhari, Auwal Maikano ,has warned personnel against graft and extortion from visitors.
He gave the last warning in a circular, saying, “these disturbing acts such as pestering, escorting and hanging around important dignitaries such as governors, ministers coming to the Villa, must stop.”
Maikano said the memo was necessary having “observed with dismay the unprofessional conduct of some officers and men of the security department working in the Presidential Villa”.
His warning came barely two weeks after the Presidency cautioned security personnel against allowing persons driving vehicles with tinted glasses access to the State House without proper scrutiny. The circular premised the warning on efforts to forestall Boko Haram attacks.
The CSO said his office had “constituted a committee to discreetly monitor the activities of all security personnel working in the Presidential Villa,’’ noting that anyone found wanting, would regret it.
Maikano said extortion and begging for favour contravane the code of conduct of security personnel posted to the Villa, such action, he said, would from now attract severe sanctions.
The circular, addressed to the various offices, urged the relevant officials to draw the attention of the concerned personnel to the circular for strict compliance.
The Director of Administration in the office of the Vice President, Wakil Adamu, had on February 17, conveyed the message to staff, urging them to adhere strictly and comply.”
Meanwhile, President Buhari yesterday received Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello at the Villa.
Bello came in when the President was meeting service chiefs including the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase..
It was their first meeting publicly since Bello’s recent inauguration recently.
The governor waited patiently for the meeting to end before he met with the President. The parley lasted about 20 minutes.
The governor who joined some Muslim faithful to pray inside the Villa’s mosque located behind the President’s office, did not entertain reporters’ questions.
