NYSC releases 2, 300 corps members to Lagos labour market

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Monday, released at least 2, 300 corps members to the Lagos State labour market, at the closing ceremony and end of 21-days Orientation Course of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members deployed to the state.

This is even as the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mr. Cyril Akhanemhe, charged the corps members to always maintain good character in their Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs), noting that good

character is better praised than outstanding talent.

Akhanemhe gave this charge the event held at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp, in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos, however advised the corps members to be worthy ambassadors of the scheme and the nation.

He said: “My dear corps members, the next 11 months depict the next step in your service year. There has never been a better time to let the leaves of mediocrity fall from your tree of live. Strive to excel in all your life endeavours. Excellence is a lifestyle, not a coincidence.You will excel if ‎you don’t internalize the habit of excuses.

“May I also remind you that good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are to some extent a gift. Good character, by contrast is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece, by thought, courage and determination.

“Therefore, in discharging your duties in your Places of Primary Assignment and in execution of your community development service activities, I urge you to always maintain good character.”

The Lagos NYSC boss also implored the corps members to be determined, dedicated and self-disciplined, adding that “You will be posted to areas where your contribution will be of high economic value such as Agriculture, Rural infrastructure development, Health and Education. I urge you to ensure you leave an indelible mark of excellent Performance in your various PPAs.”

Meanwhile, in his address, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, represented by the Director, General Services Department, Ministry of Special Duties, Mr. Joseph Abolude, urged the corps members to be agents of change, thus, to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

This is even as he appealed to Lagosians, as well as employers of labour to open their arms to receive the corps members, noting that this will enable them perform maximally in contributing positively to the development of Lagos.
