A traditional ruler has been shot dead by suspected assassins at his home in Ago-Oba area of Abeokuta south Local Government Area of Ogun state.
The ruler, Chief Moses Oyebade, who was the Oluwo of Ikanna at the time of his death, was reported to have been gunned down by unknown gunmen around 12 am on June 17, Wednesday, at his home while lying on a bed, The Nation reports.
The said killers thereafter left a note beside the deceased apparently stating the motive for carrying out the crime. The note according to police authorities was written in both English and Yoruba languages.
The content of the note read “useless man, Oni dokudo” which translates into promiscuous.
The first son of the victim, Oluyemi Oyebade, narrated to reporters that his father was shot while sleeping on his room bed beside the window.
“The bed is close to the window. As the glass was broken, he woke up to see what happened. He took his torch to see who was there. That was how he was shot.” he said
“The first gunshot was in his hand which was seriously damaged. Maybe when he was still struggling, they shot him again. I guess they shot him three times.”
He recalled that attempts have been made on the life of his father in the past
Speaking on the incidence, the state police commissioner, Valentine Ntomchukwu, said the case had been transferred to the department of criminal investigation.
He assured the public that the perpetrators would not go Scot free, he expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and to the Alake of Egbaland.
