Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari will embark on his second foreign trip barely one week after his inauguration.
The one-time military head of state is billed to attend this weekend’s G7 summit in Germany in his first major international meeting as Nigerian president.
The president’s spokesperson, Shehu Garba, revealed thatthe president has accepted the invitation to attend the G7 summit and is expected to depart Nigeria on Sunday for the summit.
“It’s going to be a two-day trip,” Garba said.
Reports say British prime minister, David Cameron is willing to assist the Nigerian leader when they meet this weekend, as Buhari has been reportedly asked to attend the summit with a ‘wish list’.
According to a report credited to Vanguard, Cameron may have also sought Buhari’s backing for “free trade” between the European Union and Africa, a suggestion which had the support of a number of countries, the president’s office said in a statement.
In a related development, the president is due to visit Chad and Niger on Wednesday to engage in talks with the countries on how to put an end to unending onslaught of Bokom Haram in the west African region.
