Kaduna Polytechnic Declares Strike And Is Ready To Shutdown

The Kaduna Polytechnic Academic Staff Union announced a three-day strike while the management of the polytechnic remains unwilling to meet their demands.
On Tuesday Musa Ibrahim, the chairman of the union, disclosed this at a press conference  in Kaduna.

According to him: “Beginning from today, our members will make appearance in class, but will not teach. If no action is taken to address our plight, the union will declare total strike. We shall proceed on a three-day warning strike after which we shall declare a total shutdown, should the need arises. The management of the polytechnic remained unwilling to meet our demands.”

Ibrahim marked some of the issues that necessitated their action to include infrastructure decay, under funding and unjustified removal of allowances.

Ibrahim also added: “This development reinforces our belief that government can adequately address the perennial decay in the educational sector by enhancing their capacities for quality research and development.”

The chairman urged the government to revisit the issue of converting Kaduna Polytechnic and Yaba College of Technology to full-fledged universities.
