SIX persons have been reported killed in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State following a clash between Fulani herdsmen and inhabitants of the local government.
It was gathered that the skirmish, which happened at Motokun village at the weekend, claimed three lives on both sides.
It was also learnt that a Deputy Commissioner of Police visited the area on Monday from Ilorin on the order of Police Commissioner, Mr. Salihu Garuba, after information filtered in about the clash in the community.
The police spokesman, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who was part of the team that visited Patigi on Monday, said that the crisis was over the usual grazing land.
Chairman of Patigi Local Government Area, Alhaji Uthman Mohammed Ndako, who confirmed the clash, said normalcy had returned to the community with the intervention of security agencies.
He said the council as well as the Patigi Emirate council led by Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar, had called meetings of leaders of the Fulani herdsmen and elders of the community in a bid to stop the recurring Fulani/farmers’ confrontation.
