The inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari on the 29th of May was not only about politics. It was filled with so much activities, fanfare and panic.
Crew monitored the situation outside the venue of the ceremony which was also filled to the brim with youths from in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to witness the auspicious event. Many young men and women alike trekked their way from neighbouring towns as far as Suleja in Niger State, keffi in Nasarawa and some parts of kogi state.
While the Inauguration-proper of Buhari and his vice Yemi Osinbajo was ongoing at the Eagle Square, these youths moved towards the Eagle Square singing, dancing and chanting to witness the historic transition of government which was largely peaceful.
The events took another turn immediately the former president, Goodluck Jonathan and his vice, Namadi Sambo were about to leave the Eagle Square.
In a swift, the youths took advantage to power their way through the security into the venue. The situation was however brought under control. Naij.com spoke to a man who identified himself as Shehu. He pointed out that he his friends trekked down to Abuja from Keffi just for peace. In his words,“We came here just to see Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan. You and I would not be here if these great men had not been united”.
Also at Fountain Gardens, venue of the BringBackOurGirls campaign group, several youths were seen gathered singing, dancing and having fun with the team. Although the leader of the group Oby Ezekwesili was not visibly seen at the time visited, delegates from other countries stormed the venue to show their love and solidarity.
However, over 50 world leaders was in attendance. Secretary of state John Kerry led the United States delegation, Robert Mugabe and a host of other world leaders were present. President of South Africa, Robert Mugabe who the Nigerian Students under the aegis of NANs had warned to steer clear of the Inauguration ceremony in Nigeria as a result of the Xenophobic attacks was physically present at the eagle Square.
It was a day which described the new level of the Nigerian democracy and there is a general call that the new government to assist the youths in their capacity.
