Nigerian woman arrested in India with 3.5kg of cocaine

A Nigerian woman has been arrested in India for being in possession of cocaine worth around $3.8million (Rs 17.8 crore).


The woman, who was simply identified as 36-year-old Veeneta was picked at Sonauli area on Indo-Nepal border with the massive haul. Police in India said that Veneeta was arrested on Wednesday night while she was coming from Nepal and 3.5 kilogram cocaine was recovered from her possession. Police Inspector Chandra Sekhar Azad said the woman has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Seven days ago, three Nigerians were executed by the government of Indonesia for drug trafficking despite global appeal against the harsh sentence. The trio included one Michael Titus Igweh, who claimed that he was tortured into indicting himself in the case against him. The three Nigerians were killed by firing squad after they were convicted for trafficking drugs, according to officials of the Indonesian government.
