Man In Court For Alleged Rape Of Friend's Wife

30 year old man, Atoku Odimegwu was arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court Lagos for rape related offence.

The accuse who is a residence of 40, Ladejo Street, Ojodu Barger, Lagos is facing a one-count charge of attempted rape on his friend’s wife.


The prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, made it known to the court that, the accuse who is a construction company worker, truly committed the offence at his residence on June 30.

She further told the court that, on the said date, the 37 year old woman went to the accused person’s house to collect the money he was owing her husband and on getting there, “on getting to the house, the accused locked the door and told the woman that he loves her and wanted to make love to her.

The woman, who said she could not believe what the husband’s friend wanted to do to her, begged him to allow her to go but the man was adamant and he forcefully pushed her to the ground.

However, the attempt to rape the woman was unsuccessful even though the accused tore her underwear but she overpowered him.’’

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Having listened to the prosecutor, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias made it known that the accused was pleaded not guilty of the charge and granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum. 

The Chief Magistrate ordered the accused to pay N50,000 in to the Chief Registrar’s account as part of the bail condition and adjourned the case to August 19, 2015 for his trail.
