Dasuki was speaking to PRNigeria after a meeting with top army and security officers in his office on July 9.
Security adviser said that army roadblocks in crossroads will continue to be kept while those in quite peaceful areas will be demolished but soldiers will still be located in those areas while not blocking roads.
He said it is both predictable and a worldwide practice for governments to intensify security measures when insecurity is heightened and asked citizens to enable associated embarrassments as they are temporary.
Dasuki said that the essential security checkpoints in vulnerable areas are ‘necessary inconvenience’ to guarantee criminals and terrorists do not have easy route.
He quoted some arrests made recently comprising that of a mastermind of bomb attacks in some towns who were arrested by Nigerian soldiers at such checkpoints.
His words: “We will continue to ensure that the necessary or essential security checkpoints are not avenues for extortion, indiscipline and other forms of corrupt practices that can exacerbate traffic flow and cause road accidents.”
Dasuki added that the government was organizing new sophisticated scanners and detectors in some areas to comfort traffics and to recognize movements of strange objects, hidden weapons and criminal suspects.
“With effective use of technology which minimises physical contacts between security personnel and citizens, the time spent at designated security checkpoints will ultimately be reduced,” he said.
He said that whenever necessary, the troops will mount their points to conduct security screening in emergency situations and for fast response.
It should be noted that there had been reports that following the meeting with security chiefs, President Buhari has ordered the immediate demolition of all military checkpoints across Nigeria.
