The Presidency has dissociated itself from the scandal involving the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu over his alleged involvement in forgery of senate rules.
Leadership reports that Femi Adeshina, the presidential spokesperson, insisted that president Muhammadu Buhari is not party to any such unconstitutional or underhand deal and will not lend its support to anyone who is practising same.
Adesina, who was speaking during a live programme in Lagos Tuesday, swore that the president, as he knows him, will not subvert the rules of the legislative arm of government.
“You do not know this president. This president will not orchestrate anything. Anything that is unconstitutional or amount to an under-hand deal, this president will not orchestrate it.
“[He is] straight-forward, plain and decent. Maybe that was what he expected everybody to do. He didn’t think anybody was going to subvert the process. That is why the National Assembly is where it is, but [there is] no orchestration.
“This is not a president that will subvert the rules in any form. He expected everyone to play straight; unfortunately, it did not happen that way and we have what we have now.”He therefore stated that the president will take his time to build strong institutions that will endure, advising Nigerians not to expect the president to “perform magic” in addressing the problems bedeviling the country.
Recall that reports emerged Monday, that the police were on the verge of arresting and interrogating Ekweremadu over cooked up allegations to allow a senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) take up his post.
