Toyota Nigeria Limited has been running the advert of the redesigned Hiace for sometimes now.
And the frequency makes one wonder whether the product is not selling enough. But findings by our correspondent show that the commercial vehicle is one of the highest selling in the mini-bus segment in Nigeria. It is also one of the TNL’s highest selling products.
The report emanating from the TNL last week indicating that the company would set up an assembly plant in the next three months beginning with the Hiace is a confirmation of what the auto firm wants to achieve with the running Hiace adverts.
Sources at the TNL said the firm hoped to reposition the Hiace as a preferred commercial vehicle in Nigeria. This, they said, was a feat the leading auto firm achieved in the past when the vehicle was the ‘adopted’ commuter bus in most of the states in the federation.
“We want to restore the past glory of the Hiace. The new Hiace is far ahead of the competition especially with its fully equipped and well-padded interior features and high performance,” said one of the sources.
The TNL describes the new Hiace in the advert as ‘luxury in motion’. The high sale of the vehicle may therefore be attributed to some of the dazzling features in the redesigned mode. For instance, the new Hiace is coming with a business class ambiance; flatbed that can be reclined; adjustable leg rest; foldable tables; spacious sitting arrangement; and a luxurious interior.
The TNL also says that the Hiace is now available in the automatic transmission to ease the driving experience, adding that the safety features of its new Hiace has been enhanced to avert accidents involving the vehicle.
The auto firm specifically highlights nine safety features of the bus mostly used for public transportation, especially on inter-city routes across the country.
“The Hiace commuter is designed from the ground up to match today’s active lifestyles and comes loaded with features to make driving more enjoyable. Wide and super long or standard and long – whichever body style you choose, you’ll discover a world that is uniquely your own,” says the TNL in a report about the vehicle on its website.
It gives other striking features of the vehicle as reliable suspension, strong body, ABS protection, corrosion resistant, rearview mirror, high-mount stop lamp, SRS airbags, crumple zone construction, Wil concept seat design, brake pedal and steering shaft intrusion-reduction system with rotary mechanism.
It explains the suspension as a front double-wishbone torsion bar spring suspension and a rear leaf spring suspension providing optimised straight-line stability, ride comfort and versatile load-carrying capacity.
It says the anti-lock brake system assists in maintaining the vehicle stability and steering response by helping to prevent wheel lock-up during emergency braking.
