Somalians Sit For First National Exams In 25 Years
Kenya, Somali Refugees, Dadaab

For the first time in 25 years, Somalian students were able to sit for a centralized examination, Daily Trust reports.
It was reported that at least 7,000 students sat for their final school examination on Monday as the Horn of Africa nation seeks means to resuscitate its education system.

Acting Premier, Abdullahi Jama, said the horn of Africa nation was taking great strides to reform its education sector.
Speaking to candidates in Mogadishu before the examination started, Ahmed said: “It is a great day for us taking centralized examination from our secondary schools today.
“This is the progress our country is making now. I wish you success in the exam.”
Internal Security Minister, Abdirisak Mohamed, told newsmen that security details were deployed to area where examinations took place to repel any prospective attacks by terrorists or rebels.
The exams are the first centralised examination the Federal Government has conducted for students who completed secondary schools in the country since 1991.
Somalia has been rocked by different terrorist activities by Al-Shebab terrorist group.

Between 1991 and 2000 the country was usually called a failed state due to the absence of a central government and residents returned to customary and religious law in most regions.
