The Abia State Police Command has destroyed an Indian hemp farm located at Amaorji village in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ezekiel Onyeke, who confirmed this to Southern City News, said the alleged owner of the farm was still being interrogated by the police.

He said police, acting on a tip-off, visited the house of the suspect, one Mr. Ibe Onwubuiko, on June 10, 2015 and arrested him with two wraps of Indian hemp.
Onyeke said the suspect took detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department to a farm behind his house where he planted the weed.
“The operatives uprooted and moved the weed to the office. The suspect admitted ownership of the farm and he is been interrogated for possible prosecution”, the state Police Command spokesman said.
The PPRO warned persons involved in hard drug-related activities to desist from such illicit business, saying, “It is the trigger of so many crimes in the society.”
“You can see that most of those involved in various criminal activities committed the crimes after taking hard drugs. Hard drugs serves as a morale booster for criminals and the police will not take it lightly with anyone involved in this dangerous deal,” he further stated.
Onyeke stressed the readiness of the state police command to deal with criminals, whose activities constituted a threat to members of the public, warning that there would be no hiding place for criminals in Abia.
He appealed to members of the public, especially community leaders, to volunteer information about those who cultivate weeds in any part of the state for prompt action.
