One-Hand Senator Sworn In

Despite having a hand, newly sworn-in Sen. Nneji Athan Achonu has shown that there is ability in his disability as his dreams of becoming a lawmaker, Senator, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was realized when he was sworn in alongside other senators came through on Tuesday, June 9 2015.

Agu Otu Aka or One Armed General, as Sen. Achonu is fondly called by his people is representing Okigwe Senatorial Zone of Imo State under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), not minding his condition campaigned round all the towns and villages that made up the constituency he is representing and massively his people not only believed in him but also voted him in.

The 56 years old general was said to have lost his hand during the Biafra war but that this is not a limitation as the renowned agronomist is a successful businessman.

Achonu attended Madonna High School, Etiti, Imo State, Government College Umuahia in Abia State and John Capot University in Rome, Italy.

He started in business at in his 20s. Among his highly successful companies are Nejach Engineering Limited, Okebaram Resources Limited, Mathan Nigeria Limited, Orient Refining Company Nigeria Limited and Chia Enterprises Limited.

Before his foray in politics, Achonu was based in Houston, Texas with his family. He is happily married to beautiful Aisha Abubakar Achonu and their union is blessed with wonderful kids.

The One-Armed General beats Mazi Clement Owunna of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Ben Uwajumogu of All Progressive Congress (APC) at the March 28 polls.
