POLICE in Ogun State have arrested no fewer than 30 suspects in connection with cult activities in various places, including hotels in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the state within one week.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this yesterday in a statement, saying his men carried out the raids on some hideouts during a special operation in Ijebu Ode and arrested the suspects with weapons.
He said the raids were carried out by 10 teams of policemen, including Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Mobile Police Force and State Intelligence Bureau.
He said the teams carried out raids on many black spots and hideouts in Fidipote Street, Ogbogbo Village, Ita Alapo, Imeweje village and some hotels in the area and arrested the prime suspects or ring leaders, who had been involved in many criminal acts, including series of killings of people in the area and in some other parts of the state.
Some of the suspects have been arraigned in court in Ijebu Ode.
Adejobi said: “The efforts of Ogun State Police Command to curb cult-related activities in the state, particularly in Ijebu Ode and its environs, have paid off as almost 30 suspected cultists have been arrested within one week at various locations in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.”
