98 Edo crashes killed 88 in five months – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps on Tuesday said that no fewer than 88 persons died in 98 road crashes recorded by the corps in Edo State, between January and May, 2015.
The Edo Sector Commander, Oluwasusi Familoni, disclosed this in an interview in Benin, the state capital.Familoni said the auto crashes, most of which occurred within the Benin and Auchi axis of the state, also left 404 persons injured.‎
The Sector Commander said the highest number of monthly road crashes recorded within the period of review was 28, which occurred in March, while the least was 14 recorded in the month of May.
Familoni, who attributed the incidents to the disregard for traffic regulations, however, noted that the corps had observed an increase in road traffic crashes on roads, such as Ramat Park to Aduwawa-Auchi road in Benin, that were presumed to be under construction.“These accidents are caused by drivers who drive against traffic on such roads.‎ People should desist from plying ‘one way’ on the newly constructed highway on Aduwawa and obey the rules and regulations guiding the use of the highways in the state.
“Drivers need to ensure minimal road carnage on that particular road, as regular and special marshals would be arresting defaulters,” he added.
