Man, 24, remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing motorcyclist to death

Austine Bathezs, a 24-year-old, who allegedly stabbed a man to death and dispossessed him of his motorcycle, was on Wednesday remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos. Magistrate E.O. Ogunkanmi of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court said the accused should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The prosecutor, Insp. Asu Feddy, had told the court that the offence was committed on April 4 at about 5.30 p.m. at Mosafeji- Aradagu, Badagry, Lagos State. He said Bathezs was armed with a dagger which he used to stab the deceased, Samuel Whesu, before dispossessing him of his motorcycle.
Feddy noted that the offence contravened Section 294 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.Section 249 prescribes a life sentence for offenders. The case has been adjourned to June 24 for mention.
