Jonathan Inaugurates Defence Radio In Abuja Barracks

Amid unconfirmed reports that the frontrunner of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau has been captured, President Goodluck Jonathan has embarked on a measure which will aid in the fight against insurgency. In a report published by Punch, President Jonathan on Friday inaugurated a radio station, owned by the Defence Headquarters, Defence Radio 107.7 FM of the Armed Forces Radio Services, in Abuja.

Located inside the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, Jonathan said that the radio will help in the growing awareness of the military activities and its battle against the Boko Haram sect.According to him, the radio station which is said to be first of its kind in West Africa, would play a crucial role in informing the public about the activities of the Armed Forces. The President, who commended the Armed Forces for their resilience in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, condemned negative and unproductive criticisms against the military. He added that while it was important to criticise, such an action should not be taken to weaken troops morale. This development comes after a radio station which purports to show solidarity for the Biafra struggle also hit airwaves in Rivers state.
