Discovery Sport is equipped with a similar range of class-leading designs, technologies, innovations and safety features, all of which has led to the Discovery Sport being awarded with a Five Star Euro NCAP rating. With so many first, the new Discovery Sport is the world’s most versatile and capable premium compact SUV, featuring a 5+2 seating (optional) in a footprint no larger than existing 5-seat premium SUVs. It is designed as an extraordinary every day vehicle that combines the legendary Land Rover capability with premium elegance. It is a true Land Rover with more contemporary offerings.

Design direction and versatility

The new Discovery Sport’s sleek, aerodynamic silhouette, with legendary Land Rover capability and a flexible interior, add up to a great looking vehicle that does so much more. Its progressive new design approach defines the new Discovery family with optimised volume, proportions and stance. The design leadership combines with engineering integrity to result in a dynamic profile and the ultimate use of interior space. It is engineered and designed to be preferred by both male and female.

According to Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer; the “…challenge has been to combine premium design with exceptional versatility; the two attributes must work in harmony.” This was achieved in the new Discovery Sport. “Discovery Sport’s dynamic design will resonate on an emotional level with consumers, and this vehicle is more versatile than any other premium compact SUV on the market.”

The Discovery Sport is equipped with a range of four-cylinder turbocharged Si4 2.0-litre petrol engines for our market, which is dominantly petrol based. This all-alloy petrol engine features stop-start technology, high-pressure direct injection, low-friction internal components and smart regenerative charging for outstanding performance and economy. The Si4 2.0-litre petrol engine is also fitted with the 9-speed automatic transmission as standard and all powertrains are four-wheel-drive.

With a wading depth of 600mm and a ground clearance of 212mm; the Discovery Sport boasts of an approach angle of 25° and departure angle of 31° respectively.  Other features of the Discovery Sport include a wheelbase of 2,741mm, rear wheel track 1,630mm, length 4,599mm, Width 2,173mm (mirrors out), front wheel track 1,621mm and Height 1, 724mm. It enjoys a turning circle – kerb-to-kerb 11.6m and turns lock-to-lock 2.43.

Comfort and Convenience

A host of innovations have allowed Discovery Sport to introduce the versatility of 5+2 seating into the premium compact SUV class for the first time. An all-new multi-link rear axle not only provides engaging driving dynamics but it also provides ample and flexible cabin space behind the second row.

Coupled with supple long-travel suspension, the innovative rear axle also ensures the Discovery Sport is comfortable, refined and rewarding to drive on-road, while retaining the breadth of all-terrain capability for which Land Rover is world-renowned. In fact, with approach, departure and breakover angles of 25, 31 and 21 degrees respectively, Terrain Response®  technology, and the ability to wade to 600mm, Discovery Sport offers class-leading capability in all conditions.
