President commissions 240km trans- African highway

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday commissioned the 240km Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja Junction-Ikom-Mfum/Cameroon border road project reassuring Nigerians of his commitment to radically improve the socio-economic well being of the populace.

President Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, at a ceremony held at the Enugu end of the road, explained that the road was a section of the Lagos-Mombasa Trans-African highway.
He said the commissioning of the road underscored Federal Government’s determination to re-vitalize and transform the nation’s critical road infrastructure, thereby bringing about economic growth and improved social well being of the people.
The president noted that by the commissioning, the government had kept its pledge that the project would be completed on schedule and to the required standard, expressing happiness that the road had turned from motorists nightmare a few years ago to motorists’ delight.
The Minister of Works, represented by the Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, explained that the road consisted of four sections of high quality asphaltic concrete carriageway of 240 kilometres.
