For touching a woman’s breast without her consent, a 45-year-old trader has been charged to a court in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital. Vanguard reports that the man, Sunny Onugu,
who resides at plot 26, Dan-Suleiman street, Utako, Abuja, appeared before a Kado Grade 1 Area court for the said act on Adeyemi Rafiu, and pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of gross indecency and assault. Consequently the presiding judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be a civil servant not below the position of Grade Level 6. The prosecuting officer, Salisu Khaleel told the court that Rafiu who stays in the same place, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on February 29. Onugu reportedly touched Rafiu’s cleavage while she was paying for a candle she bought at his shop and explaining further, the prosecutor informed that the man slapped the woman when she protested over the assault. The offences were said to contravene Sections 285 and 265 of the Penal Code.
