The Peoples Democrtic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over alleged plots by the ruling party to influence the decisions of election tribunals in various parts of the country for selfish purposes.
The party in a statement yesterday, June 2, through Olisa Metuh, its national secretary, claimed it was aware of schemes by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to handpick member of the gubernatorial elections tribunals in some PDP states.
According to Vanguard, it alleged that the ruling party had already put plans in place in Akwa-Ibom, Abia, Rivers and Delta with the aim of compromising the decision of the election tribunals in those states.
The party queried why the Akwa-Ibom state Governorship, National and State Assembly elections tribunals were relocated out of the state.
It alleged that it was all part of a grand plan by the ruling party to doctor reports of the various tribunals.
Recalling an earlier warning, it said: “In the same vein, we had earlier alerted of a groundswell of plots by the APC to foist a one party rule in our country by attempting to destabilize the PDP, take over some of our states and legislative seats, all to ensure that there is no strong opposition when they eventually assume power.”
The party warned that the plots by the APC to highjack some of the PDP states and legislative seats could plunge the country into anarchy.
It called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail and stop his party from truncating democracy in the country.
It told the international community and lovers of democracy worldwide to hold the APC responsible should there be any break down of law and order in the polity.
Following its poor outing in the 2015 general elections, the PDP has found itself struggling to cope in its new role as the opposition party.
