I've seen plenty of stunning birth photography, but these powerful photos of a father delivering his child in the family car are seriously breathtaking.
Noah Parker van Rhyn Strunk was born Feb. 22. The images of his mom, Lauren Strunk, giving birth in the front seat (and dad Noah Sr. delivering the baby himself) went viral after they were shared by the couple's birth photographer, Stephanie Knowles of Jaiden Photography, on Facebook
As Knowles explained in her caption, Strunk gave birth just after midnight in the car, within minutes of Noah putting it into park in the hospital parking lot. The Florida mom said she'd gone into labor at home and texted Knowles to give her the update. Serendipitously, the photographer decided to meet them at their house and follow them in her own car to the hospital, rather than just meeting them there.
Strunk's husband missed the hospital entrance and she instructed him to park the car immediately because the baby couldn't wait. The photographer, who was luckily right behind them, was able to snap into action and capture a few pictures of the baby's birth and the immediate aftermath, while Strunk's mother went to get help at the hospital.
n her caption for one of the rawest images capturing the actual birth, Knowles explained that the baby was born so quickly that the dad "had to literally catch him after his shoulders emerged." Strunk also had to grab the newborn by the arm to catch him after delivering him. Talk about protective maternal instincts!
The parents, who were "thrilled" when they saw the photos, told Us Weekly they were grateful for Knowles' presence. The Strunks' new son (nicknamed Parker as "an ode to his unconventional birthplace") is in good health and joins big brother Harrison.
Amazingly, this was the first time Knowles (a newborn, maternity, and family photographer) had ever captured a birth. Safe to say she nailed it.
