Rivers gov poll: PDP opens defence, tenders 21,827 exhibits

In its bid to defend the election of Governor Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, tendered a total of 21,827 documents before the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Abuja.

The documents which the PDP tendered through its counsel, Mr.  Ifedayo Adedipe, SAN, comprised of 1,341 incident forms that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, used in accrediting voters from11 units in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, LGA, of Rivers State, as well as 20,486 oath of neutrality forms that were filled by all INEC officials that participated in the governorship poll.
PDP told the tribunal that the oath of neutrality and affirmation forms it tendered were procured from 18 LGAs in Rivers State.
It  said  the documents were tendered to fault allegation by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, that oath of neutrality was not administered on INEC adhoc staff that conducted the election.
Adedipe noted that  owing to contentions by the petitioners that incident forms were not used during the governorship election in the state, his client decided to produce and tender some of them with a view to proving that the APC lied to the tribunal.
Adedipe said: “My lords, we shall start our case by producing from the bar, Certified True Copies of relevant INEC documents. This morning (yesterday) I want to start with incident forms for Obio/Akpor LGA”.
“Specifically, for Unit  001-Ward 17 in the LGA, PDP, tendered 83 copies of the forms, for unit two-135 copies, unit three-127 copies, unit four-162, unit five-96, unit six-91, unit seven-127, unit eight-157, unit 10-144, unit 12-84, unit 13-135.
“My lord I seek to tender them in evidence as part of our defence,” PDP lawyer declared.
