Over 1 Million People Displaced By Boko Haram

A report by the International Organisation for Migration in conjunction with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have revealed that  at least 1,385,298 persons have been displaced by the activities of terrorist group, Boko Haram in the North east.

According to the June 2015 Displacement Tracking Matrix released by both organisations, the affected states are Borno, Yobe, Adamawa Gombe and Taraba states.
Borno State had the highest number of IDPs with 1,002,688 followed by Yobe with 125,484; Adamawa 113,437; Bauchi 76,504; Gombe 16,984 and Taraba 20,501.
The report which was obtained by Nigerian Tribune indicated that there was slight decrease in the number of Internal Displaced Persons  (IDPs) camp compared to the last report in April this year due to movements of some people especially in Adamawa state, where the population of the camp have decreased.
While in Borno state, the population has  increased and rising over a million. The report also stated that  92% of IDPs lived with host communities while 8% lived in camps or camp-like sites.
Also, the report shows that 52% of the population were females and 48% males. Children below 18, according to the report, comprised 56% of the population and more than a half of them five years old or younger.
Most of them also mentioned food as their primary need while others mentioned shelter and employment. They also indicated their interest in going to their original homes, but pointed out that the security situation was preventing them from returning.
The report was  carried out to support the Nigerian Authorities and their humanitarian partners to undertake IDPs assessments with the objective of establishing a comprehensive profile of the IDPs population.
Meanwhile, the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has urged all Nigerians to continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, in dealing with the activities of Boko Haram.
