Kamilu Salaudeen, a 23-year-old apprentice, has gone missing after he was said to have visited friends in the Mowe area of Ogun state.
The young man, whose parents were living in Osogbo, Osun state, was residing with a relative in Oniyanrin, Mile 12, Lagos state.
According to The Punch, Salaudeen left Lagos two months ago saying he was going to visit friends in Mowe. Since then, his relatives have not been able to reach him.
Kabiru Yinusa, a relative said the inability to reach him by phone was because he had left his phone behind.
Yinusa said the parents were unaware of his location and that they had visited several police stations to report him missing.
“On Wednesday, April 21, he left the house, saying he was going to see some friends in Mowe.
“When he did not return home the day after, we became troubled.
“He had left his phone behind, so we could not reach him.
“We have gone to many of the police stations in Ogun State. In fact, the Divisional Police Officer of one of the stations, opened his cell to us, but he was not there.”
Wasiu Jimoh, one of his friends, said he played football with him on that fateful day before he left for Mowe but unfortunately did not know any of his friends in his supposed destination.
Yomi Odegbami, a community leader voiced his concern that the young man might be a victim of kidnapping.
He said, “I know him to be easy-going and cool-headed. When his family members told me that they had yet to find him, I was surprised.
“All our efforts to check police stations and see if he was being detained had been abortive. We have asked all his friends that we know, but they don’t know his whereabouts.
“We have checked hospitals and mortuaries in the state as well. It has been very frustrating.”
Muyiwa Adejobi, the Ogun state police public relations officer said the matter was not reported at the police station and urged the relatives to make sure their case was duly documented.
