FG Bans Ogogoro Consumption In Nigeria

The Nigerian Federal Government has declared the consumption of local gin popularly known as Ogogoro illegal.
FG were forced to ban the local gin after reports surfaced of the deaths of quite a number of people after consuming the alcoholic drink.

The mysterious deaths in Ondo had been blamed on the local mixture, about 28 people died.
The people in Ondo had been said to have developed a strange ailment after consuming the local gin contaminated with methanol.
The DG of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii announced the ban today. He added that 38 persons have died from consuming contaminated local gin in Rivers state recently.
Rivers State Administration had already banned the consumption of locally produced gin popularly called Ogogoro or kai-kai.
