Court remands student in prison for alleged theft of N10,000 cell phone

A Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Mararaba, on Thursday remanded a student, Monday Prayer, 20, in Keffi Prisons for allegedly stealing a cell phone valued at N10,000.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Albert Maga, gave the order after the accused, who resides at Mararaba, denied committing the offence.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, had told the court that one Yayock Shedrach of Tudun Wada, Mararaba, lodged a complaint against the accused at the `A’ Divisional Police Station on May 27.
Adaji said that on the same day at about 6 p.m., while the complainant was going home, the accused came behind, used a sharp object and injured him on the right hand.
He added that the accused collected the complainant’s Tecno phone valued at N10,000 and escaped.
“After collecting the phone, the accused escaped with it before he was apprehended and the said phone was recovered from him,” Adaji said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 292 of the Penal Code and attracts two years jail term or option of fine or both.
The case was adjourned till June 8 for further hearing.
