Asset Declaration: Nigerians React

Recently, the  Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, to the President, made it public that President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo will publucly declare their assets.
However, Nigerians have began to react since the news was made public.

The declaration of asset by Buhari and Osibajo is such a good idea, Yar’ Adua did it and Nigerians respected him for that. This will make us understand that if there is anything they take from the country we will know and they will be questioned  People paid and sponsored Buhari’s presidential campaign. It is indeed a good thing and it will make us respect his personality. He has proved himself over time and that’s why people can vouch for him. It is also a welcome development if people can keep up with this and Nigeria will move forward.

Talking about the asset declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari. From the information I gathered, what Buhari actually did was a ‘secret’ declaration with the code of conduct bureau. And we are waiting for the public declaration which the date is unknown to us but we hope the media inform us when they eventually declare. However, it is a good idea if they declare it, it will promote transparency and accountability. If they have nothing to hide they should all declare. There is nothing hindering them from making copies available to the media so Nigerians could see and tick their checklist accordingly. After all, public declaration of assets is nothing new: the late president Yar ‘adua did same.

It is a good idea that people who wants to occupy any government position declares their assest, but Nigerians are not to be trusted. There are so many people who front for these people and because they know that majority of Nigerians are gullible, they get away with it. I am particularly concerned about Buhari who people voted for because of his antecedent. If he can hold on to his ways I think it will go along way and encourage other Nigerians.

I thinks it’s a good development, that will explain to the  masses where the corrupt politicians get their ill gotten wealth from, and will enable proper accountability of federal fund.

The asset declaration to me doesn’t change anything. We wouldn’t know where and how they will embezzle. Stealing or embezzling is not until they can’t account for some monies, but hiking and giving contract to friends and family and all. But to fulfil all righteousness, let them be just.

We have only heard about the secret declaration, we are waiting for the public declaration. Let’s see if they are what they have been claiming. But that doesn’t make any difference. They are other ways.

Suleiman Shotunbi
Let them declare first. The whole idea is just to make a statement and make Nigerians see the need to believe in them as a party.

I always want to ask a question, can they declare all what they have? I think the question is NO. They will only declare what they want us to know not what we should know,
Muhammadu Buhari promised to declare his assets publicly during his campaign for the seat of the president at the 2015 general elections.
