20 Hospitalised As Cholera Outbreak Hits Jos

20 Hospitalised As Cholera Outbreak Hits Jos

A reported outbreak of Cholera in Jos, Plateau state left about 20 people, including children, hospitalised yesterday in the state capital.
According to Yakubu Izang, a medical officer at the Kauna clinic in Tudunwa area of the capital city, about 10 people were confirmed to have tested tested positive to cholera disease.

Izang revealed that some persons including children were taken to the clinic after they were reported to be vomiting and stooling among other health challenges, and this led to the diagnosis which showed the real cause of the ailment.

Moses Gbande, a guardian of one of the victims, in a chat with Leadership, disclosed that the victim he took to the clinic was constantly vomiting and stooling three days ago, a situation which reportedly deteriorated Sunday night.

While other victims of the disease were hospitalised at the Kauna clinic, many others were referred to other clinics due to the over-stretched state of the facilities at the Kauna clinic at the time, as another hospital reported the hospitalisation of over 20 persons for the same reason.

Plateau State chief epidermologist, Dr. Raymond Jurit, could not be reached as at the time of filing this report as efforts to reach him on phone proved futile.
Just a month ago, 20 people were confirmed dead following the outbreak of cholera in Ebonyi state.
