Governor of cross river, Ben Ayade |
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state is keen to ensure that his government is transparent as plans to perform a new practice is currently on-going.
This follows reports that nominees for appointments as commissioners in the state are to undergo a compulsory aptitude test before confirmation, Vanguard reports.
It was gathered that Governor Ayade has already set up a selection committee to oversee the process.
This was disclosed in a Christian Ita, the special assistant on media and chief press secretary to the governor.
Ita said: “All nominees for appointment as commissioner would have to undergo the aptitude test before their names would be forwarded to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.”
Ita also disclosed that appointment of chairmen and members of boards, agencies and parastatals and even special advisers would go through the same routine.
He said: “Governor Ayade wants all nominees for appointments as commissioners to undergo integrity test. They will also write an aptitude test.
“Renowned Abuja-based lawyer, Paul Erokoro, is the chairman of the committee which has prominent woman leader and politician, Grace Ekanem and chief of staff to the governor, Martin Orim as members.”
According to the Ita, Governor Ayade believes that every seeking appointee in the state must be subjected to moral and ethical measurement to ascertain whether or not they can function in his government.
Governor Ben Ayade has continued to show his determination to move the state forward. He recently locked civil servants out of work for lateness and emphatically stated he didn’t inherit an empty treasury from his predecessor, Senator Liyel Imoke, contrary to the cries of state governors about inheriting empty treasuries.
