The Nigerian army appoints a new commander for struggle against Boko Haram.
From now the Operation Lafiya Dole commander is Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar.
The acting director of army public relations, Colonel Sani Usman, in a statement said that one important point to note is that this is the first time the Nigerian army in its history is deploying Corps Headquarters in the field adding that the appointment is with immediate effect.
The statement notes that until this appointment, he was the commander of Nigerian Army Armoured Corps.
“Although it is a unified command coordinating 3 and 7 Divisions of the Nigerian Army as well as other elements of Operation Lafiya Dole,” it says.
The military operation in the fight to conquer Boko Haram Operation Lafiya Dole is renamed Operation Zaman Lafiya. The change of name was to send a strong message to the dreaded Islamist group that the military was unrelenting in the fight to end the insurgency.

To meet up with the established time line of bringing to a successful conclusion the fight against terrorism and insurgency, the Nigerian Army has appointed a new Commander for OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE. He is Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar. Until this appointment, he was the Commander of Nigerian Army Armoured Corps. Although it is a unified command coordinating 3 and 7 Divisions of the Nigerian Army as well as other elements of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
