Two killed in Ikorodu bank robbery –Residents

Residents of Ijede in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, have yet to recover from a robbery attack in the area last week Monday, as they say two persons died while 14 others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
Punch had reported on Tuesday, June 2, that armed robbers attacked the Omitoro branch of First Bank and Ijede branch of Wema bank during which there was commotion in the area as people scampered to safety.

When PUNCH visited the area, the residents said two women among the injured victims were still receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos.
A welder, Sulaimon, who was shot on the thigh, told our correspondent that the first deceased person, identified only as Femi, was a truck driver, who was shot by the robbers at the Agric bus stop, Ijede, while anokada rider, whose name had yet to be identified, was also killed and his bike snatched by the robbers.
Another resident, who gave his name simply as Saheed, said the truck driver was buried last Wednesday.
He said, “The robbers also shot at our transformer as they left. Since Monday, we have not had electricity.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the death of the truck driver, adding that efforts were being intensified to arrest the robbers.
