National Assembly environs in Abuja now look like a war zone. Heavily armed security officers have blocked all the approaches to the complex, preventing people from entering the buildings – independently of who they are.

All access gates were locked and security operatives were said to be manning them, preventing workers and guests of lawmakers that were at the National Assembly early this morning from gaining entrance to the complex, though no lawmaker was seen around the gate.
Armed policemen and Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over the entire area of the first gate.
Despite lockdown Senator Bukola Saraki, ex-governor Kwara State governor and senator representing Kwara Central,  has been elected as the new President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Senator Ahmed Lawan(Borno), who emerged the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was not nominated.
