Governor Rochas Okorocha |
There are indications a fresh crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo state is said to be the cause.
Okorocha, who is the leader of APC in the South East is said to be responsible for submitting a list of names for the post of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to President Muhammadu Buhari so he can make a choice.
According to This Day report, Okorocha has submitted the name of his in-law, Prof. Anthony Anwuka and two others; Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Chris Ngige to the President.
Sources in the APC are claiming the governor only added Onu and Ngige on the list to fulfill all righteousness as his preferred candidate was Anwuka.
“You should be aware by now that Rochas has removed the SSG in Imo State. He replaced him with his chief of staff and replaced the chief of staff with his son-in-law (Uche Nwosu) who was Commissioner for Lands in his first term. He has sent Anwukas name to Buhari for the post of SGF,” a source said.
Recall that Anwuka’s son, Uzo, recently got married to the daughter of Okorocha in October 2014.
Another source, who spoke on the matter said it was obvious the governor has not been fair to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) that he took to join them in the APC in the sharing of key posts.
The source stated: “Buhari is from the defunct CPC (Congress for Progressives Change), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, his deputy is from the defunct ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria, (John Odigie-Oyegun was a chieftain of the defunct ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party) while Bukola Saraki came from the New PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), so Okorocha believes he is within his rights to determine who shall be SGF.”
Following his re-election for a second term in office, Okorocha had dissolved the state’s executive council and appointed his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu as his chief of staff. He also sacked the vice chancellor of the Imo state University, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie.
On June 8, Tuesday, he inaugurated the new officials, which include the new secretary to the state government, Sir Jude Ejiogu, chief of staff of the Government House, Uche Nwosu, chief press secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo and others.
