Lightning killed three siblings and one other on Children’s Day |
Three siblings were reportedly struck dead by lightning on Children’s Day in Gure town, Kwara state.
The incident which took place in Baruten local government area of the state also claimed the life of another child.
Reports say the lightning at the commercial nerve centre of the town struck during a downpour between 12 midnight on Tuesday and 1am on Wednesday, May 27, when the children were confirmed dead, and they have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
According to Vanguard, the lightning was said to have killed all the children instantly, three of whom were of the same parents while the fourth one was said to have passed the night with the family of the other victims.
Confirming the incident, Mallam Mohammed Omar-Bio, the chairman of the local government, said it was a devastating and pathetic incident to have happened on Children’s Day.
Speaking in a statement issued by the public relations officer of the council, Jubril Masene, the local government head also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency, and other disaster management agencies to provide succour for the victims of the disaster.
