The Senator representing Taraba South at the National Assembly Senator Emmanuel Bwacha call on the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Atahiru Jega to sack the Taraba state Governorship Election Returning Officer and bring another run the run off in the state.
He said the returning officer for the governorship election in the state has fumbled in his responsibility by been bias for cancelling election in Donga local government area without justifiable means.
Bwacha stated this while addressing a press conference in Jalingo on Wednesday
He said the decision of the state governorship ‘Returning Officer, Prof. Muhamed Kyari to cancel election in Donga local government area was a clear indication that the he was in a shady deal with those who refused to give credible elections chance to see light of the day.’
Prof. Muhamed Kyari had on Sunday cancelled the governorship election in Donga local local government area where PDP scored 37,069 beating APC which had 10,007 on the basis that the election was mar with irregularities in 5 out 165 poling units of the local government area.
“It was a clear indication that the returning officer was out to tarnish the hard earned reputation of the national chairman of the commission who has demonstrated that elections all over the country should be free and fair”
“In Bali local government area for example, 20 poling units were canceled by the returning officer but because APC won in the state the election in the local government was not canceled”
“In Donga only 5 poling units had problem election from the local government was canceled by the returning officer therefore it has shown clear that the returning officer was not fair to PDP to canceled the election in Donga”
“INEC has accepted that the cancelation was in error then why go to pools again, if the cancelation was in error and you call for a run off of the same election then the whole thing became questionable”
“As a Senator representing the people of Southern Taraba at the National Assembly I don’t have to keep quiet when an injustice of such is done on my people, moreover am from Donga local local government area of Taraba state”
Bwacha further stated that if INEC decide to conduct the run off election the PDP would still go to pools as obedient political party.
“The same people that cast these votes will still go back and vote for the candidate of their choice, we are not afraid of elections, if you conduct elections in Donga twenty times for now PDP will win twenty times”
“The votes Buhari got in Taraba at the presidential pools was because of his personality not because APC can get such votes in the state but still APC lost in Taraba state. I want things to be just because when APC won at the presidential pools we congratulate the party and we celebrated with them”
“Let the looser have the sportsmanship to concede to defeat”
Bwacha therefore call on the national chairman of the commission to return the PDP governorship candidate Dickson Darius Isahku as the governor elect of Taraba state.
